A grand ceremony to mark the occasion was held in Dien Bien Phu city, with the attendance of State President Tran Dai Quang.
The State President granted the first-class Labour Medal to the Provincial Party Committee of Dien Bien for making outstanding achievements in the construction of Son La hydropower plant. Later on, he laid wreaths and offered incense for martyrs at the A1 cemetery.
In May 1954, the historic Dien Bien Phu Campaign was brought to a triumphant end, annihilating or capturing 16,200 enemy troops, setting ablaze 62 airplanes, and destroying the enemy's entire arsenal.
This victory is also attributed General Vo Nguyen Giap, who was the Commander-in-Chief of the Campaign.
