The interview covered five major questions attracting the attention of the international media. To answer question about the existing challenges in diplomatic relations between the two countries, the general secretary stressed the importance of overcoming the past and actively engaging in strengthening ties in politics, diplomacy, business, culture and education.
Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong also stressed that his first official visit to the US would lay the foundations for stronger ties in the future.
He also hoped that President Obama’s visit at the end of 2015 would also contribute to strengthening links between the two countries.
Answering specific questions about the purpose of this trip, Trong said that his visit would contribute to bolstering trust between the two nations.
It was also a chance for the leaders of the two countries discuss about a long-term vision for the Asia-Pacific region, as well as economic collaboration such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.
