89-year old veteran Nguyen Tuu in Hue City still remembers the time he was on the front lines of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. He gave his treasured medal and hat to a local museum.
As these items were with veterans during the hardships of war, they hope to contribute to the nation's historical treasures by donating them to museums.
The Ho Chi Minh Museum and the Museum of History and Revolution in Thua Thien Hue province have received 35 thousand items from veterans.
"Each piece of memorabilia holds a true story of a veteran. They are precious artifacts that bring back memories of a heroic time", Cao Duy Hung - Director of Museum of History and Revolution, Thua Thien-Hue Province, said.
Each relic represents the pride and spirit of the veterans during a time of war. Preserving and displaying them in museums helps the younger generations understand more about the war, and increases their love for the country.
