Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said: "I’m happy to welcome Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Japan. I'm pleased to see that Japanese-Vietnamese relations have significantly developed over the years. In my meeting today with General Secretary Trong, we shared common concerns over constant actions that attempt to change the status quo and cause tension in the East Sea. We have also agreed on a joint statement that orients Japanese-Vietnamese co-operation in the coming time".
And General Secretary, Communist Party of Vietnam, said: "We want to reaffirm our consistent policy of considering Japan as an important and long-term development partner as well as our desire to further deepen the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries for peace and prosperity of Asia. I hope that the three highlights of this visit, namely promotion of economic connectivity, enhancement of political trust and intensification of co-operation on regional and international issues, will generate fresh momentum to elevate the relations to a higher plain".
