At this special breakfast, every participant pinned a white ribbon to their shirt, symbolizing the end of violence against women, for which men need to be the first advocates. This is the second time the White Ribbon Breakfast was held in Vietnam, attracting some 100 delegates from foreign embassies, ministry leaders, NGOs and the UN. The event is among the 16-day action campaign to end violence against women and girls in Vietnam.
Statistics from the Family Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism revealed that in the last five years, domestic abuse reports average at around 20,000 cases per year, with the intensity of violence getting worse.
