Speaking at the event, chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan stressed the importance of the public in environmental protection. He asked the city's authorities to explore ways of encouraging the participation of residents. He said that Hanoi's Department of Natural Resources and Environment can examine environmental protection activities of only over 2,000 among 180,000 businesses currently operating in the city each year. It means it will take nearly 90 years to check all of them. Therefore, the participation of people will help speed up the progress.
