VTV Applies Technology to Protect Copyright

VTV.vn - New technologies are being utilized to scan, alert, and promptly prevent copyright infringements of Vietnam Television (VTV) programs.

Nine  main channels of Vietnam Television (VTV), from VTV1 to VTV9, broadcast round-the-clock, while VTV itself produces and distributes  hundreds of hours of content daily through both traditional broadcasting and digital platforms. In reality, many videos and programs produced by VTV have been illegally cut, edited, and exploited for various purposes, including malicious intent. This situation  requires the application of advanced technologies for scanning, alerting, and  preventing infringements in a timely manner.

In addition to television broadcasting, VTV’s programs are also streamed live on VTVGo and made available  through licensing agreements on OTT applications of various partners. Using Audio Matching technology, each signal delivered  to a partner is embedded with a unique audio watermark for verification. This watermark operates at a specific frequency, making it imperceptible to viewers while allowing AI to identify which partner the signal was assigned to. However, the most common copyright  infringements today are committed  on social media platforms. In 2024 alone, VTV Digital has detected and handled over 43,000 cases of copyright infringement, issuing takedown requests for numerous  infringing contents and channels.

"In recent times, many infringements have been detected on platforms like YouTube and Facebook, especially during the Tet holiday. We have implemented a synchronized and proactive approach by integrating reference files into our system for scanning, alerting, and even blocking infringing content", said Nguyen Minh Dung, Head of Business and Digital Content Development at VTV Digital.

According to experts, it remains difficult to   completely prevent  copyright infringement   because these platforms are managed by foreign companies with different operational mechanisms. "Since platform systems are not interconnected, and no regulatory body can oversee all uploaded content across platforms, copyright enforcement requires direct engagement with each platform individually. This creates significant complications for stakeholders, including time-consuming processes", said Vu Ngoc Son, Head of Technology at the Vietnam National Cyber Security Association.

To address this issue comprehensively, VTV Digital representatives stated that in addition to using  technological tools for detection and prevention, they will continue working with cross-border platforms and regulatory agencies to ensure strict enforcement according to  legal regulations.
