According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, durian exports brought in about 350 million USD in June alone, making it the leading exported fruit in Vietnam.
By the mid-year mark, turnover had reached 850 million USD. China remains Vietnam's main durian market, accounting for 95% of its export volume.
Forecasts predict that China's durian imports this year may exceed 1 million tonnes, creating intense competition among Southeast Asian durian export markets.
Thailand has responded by increasing the number of durian packing and sorting facilities to over 500, while Vietnam has expanded its durian growing area to over 12,000 hectares.
