The country's population ranked 13th in the world and third in Southeast Asia. In 2017, over 1.3 million children were born in the country, with Hanoi seeing the largest number with more than 117,000, nearly double HCM City's. Notably, the sex ratio at birth in many localities remains uneven, with some 120 boys over 100 girls. Also according to the Department, average life expectancy of Vietnamese people is 73.5, in which the age for females is 76.2 years while the figure for males is 70.9 years.
