The pressure on society will be great as Vietnam will face a labour shortage. In the future, elderly people will have to join the working force according to their abilities to make up for losses and reduce the pressure on society.
According to the General Statistics Office of Viet Nam, the number of elderly people joining the workforce is currently growing.
- in 2012: this number was at 7,3% of the total elderly population.
- in 2015: it was 8,4%
Currently, about 40 % of elderly people want to continue working and it is forecasted that in the next 30 years, the number of elderly people in Vietnam will be at 20 million.
