VTV.vn - The Vietnamese film "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass" won an award for best feature film at the annual Fuzhou international film festival in China on Saturday.

This is a vivid example of the new approach taken to film production and marks a step forward in international recognition for Vietnam’s movie-making efforts.

Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass is based on an award-winning and best-selling novel by Nguyen Nhat Anh. Set in the mid-1980s in a poor village in central Vietnam, the film is a nostalgic story of two young brothers who share everything but also compete with each other while vying for the attention of a young girl.

"The most important thing about this film has been encouraging emotions in the audience. For the footage, I think we have a professional and well-supported production crew.

The film’s producers are delighted to see their three years of efforts paying off. The film was shown nationwide to packed cinemas." - Victor Vu - Director.

"We highly appreciate films like this. It shows that every film can be a blockbuster. We don’t need to only make comedy, action or horror films but can also make films that are adult in theme or have sophisticated content, such as historical and documentary films which honour the country and late president Ho Chi Minh." - Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, Director, Department of Cinema & Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

After being screened in theatres, the film will also be broadcast on cable TV so that it can reach audiences nationwide. Combining both artistic and commercial values, the film has changed people’s prejudices about state-funded films, which has been for long considered a waste of money.
