As a frequent participant, Vietnam is one of the 12 countries that will perform at the event. In the following report, let’s take a look at the Vietnamese cultural activities in this festival.
This Vietnamese folk play took place at the opening ceremony of this year’s Arirang multicultural festival. Taking over 20 minutes, the performance showcased Vietnamese folk culture to a Korean and international audience. This year, Vietnam was selected as a co-organiser and the highlight of the festival.
"Vietnam’s participation as a co-organiser in this festival shows that the organisers were really keen to promote Vietnamese culture and art. It also underlines the close relationship between Vietnam and South Korea." - Vuong Duy Bien, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
"Vietnam and South Korea have a long term relationship, and we look forward to strengthening ties to develop further links in the future. In order to do that, both our peoples should promote more cultural exchanges. That explains why we chose Vietnam as the co-organiser of this festival." - Lee Cheol Seung, Organising Committee, Arirang Multicultural Festival 2015.
The festival offers a great opportunity for Vietnam to promote tourism. The Vietnamese cultural space attracted a great number of visitors to come and learn about Vietnamese water puppets, To He (or rice flour figurine), folk festival and traditional cuisine… Visitors are able to enjoy hands-on experience and bring home little handicraft products.
"I’d love to visit Vietnam and experience its landscapes, friendly people and rich culture." - Lee Dong Seoup, Korean visitor.
In addition to Vietnam, a wealth of culture from the other 11 participating countries were offered for people’s enjoyment.
