This is one of the 10 Vietnamese hotels awarded the title of ASEAN green hotel in the 2014 – 2016 period. In order to get this recognition, hotels and homestays have to meet criteria related to protecting the environment, saving energy, being local-friendly, and treating waste with green technologies.
These criteria are under the supervision of ASEAN member countries. If any hotels and homestays do not maintain the criteria, their titles will be removed.
"Building common criteria for green tourism is a new step for Vietnam to integrate with other countries. Criteria of Vietnam’s tourism can be the same as in other countries. Thus, we can improve our competitiveness. When tourists come to ASEAN, they can visit Vietnam with no doubt in service quality." - Vu The Binh, Vice Chairman, Vietnam Tourism Association
In addition to green hotel and homestay criteria, ASEAN countries agreed on guidelines for ASEAN public toilets, Spa services, greentourist cities, community-based tourism, and tourism security. All countries also worked on a roadmap of ASEAN tourism in response to climate change.
Asia Pacific Tourism Association and ASEAN forecasted that the region will receive 87 million visitors in 2015. With such a large number of tourists, developing green tourism is a vital task. Agreement on tourism service criteria will promote connection in the region, create a clean tourism environment, and improve local life.
