VTV.vn - Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Luiz Vieira began an official visit to Vietnam on Sunday at the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

During talks in Hanoi on Monday, Minister Minh said Vietnam wanted to boost ties with Brazil. He added that Vietnamese leaders welcomed President Dilma Rousseff who will pay an official visit to Vietnam later this year, and considered it an important event that would create momentum for further bilateral ties.

For his part, Minister Mauro Luiz Vieira confirmed Brazil’s support for Vietnam’s candidacy to the UN Security Council's Non-Permanent Membership for the 2020-2021 term and the UNESCO Executive Council for the 2015-2019 term. He proposed the two sides adopt a number of technical solutions to facilitate Brazil in recognising a market economy status for Vietnam. They underlined their support for the settlement of sovereignty disputes through dialogue and peaceful means with respect to international law including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
