Vietnam welcomes the Declaration of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

VTV.vn - Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh commented on the Hiroshima Declaration of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Japan, which mentions the situation in the East Sea on Thursday.

"Vietnam welcomed the Declaration of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on maritime security towards the common goal of ensuring navigation and aviation security, safety and freedom and maritime security with respect for international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The country asks parties concerned to contribute practically to the maintenance of peace, stability, and the rule of law in all maritime areas and oceans.”

At a press conference in Hanoi on Thursday, Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Le Hai Binh also hailed Laos and China’s effort in release upstream Mekong River water. The spokesperson made the remark while addressing reporter's inquiry about China's plan to continue releasing water from its dam in upstream Mekong River.

China have confirmed it has continued discharging water between April 11th to 20th from the Jinghong Hydropower Station in southwest China's Yunnan Province. Mekong Delta authorities confirmed that the water in the first week of April, helping easing drought and saline intrusion in the lower reaches of the Mekong. Binh said Vietnam highly appreciated efforts to ensure the sustainable use of water in the Mekong River, adding it would help bolster relations and improve the living conditions and livelihoods of people leaving near the river.
