VTV.vn - Vietnam earned US$799 million from exporting seafood in September, raising the total seafood export value in the first nine months of the year to US$6.4 billion, up 7.2% over the same period of last year.

The United States, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea were the largest importers of Vietnamese seafood, accounting for a combined share of 54.1%.

Vietnam’s seafood exports also grew strongly in the Netherlands, Hong Kong (China) and the UK, at 28.2%, 23.6% and 19.9% respectively.

During the January-September period, Vietnam also imported seafood from abroad worth a total of US$1.26 billion, up 21.3% over the same period in 2017, with imports in September reaching US$117 million.

Last month, the US Department of Commerce lowered the anti-dumping tariffs on Vietnamese shrimp to 4.58%, from an earlier preliminary tariff of 25.39%, which is expected to boost Vietnamese exports in the future.

In addition, the prices of shrimp and tra fish are projected to increase in the final months of the year due to growing demand amidst a fall in shrimp output in India and Thailand.
