Tran Thi Lan Huong received a scholarship in Development Studies at Victoria University in New Zealand. After finishing her degree, she is working in Vietnam.

Academic opportunities in New Zealand now become more open to Vietnamese. At the education forum between the two countries, New Zealand’s Minister of Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Steven Joyce, and Vietnam’s Minister of Education and Training Phạm Vũ Luận signed an education co-operation arrangement.
Pham Vu Luan, Vietnamese Minister of Education & Training said: We are creating favourable conditions for the two country’s higher education institutions to directly co-operate. We’re supporting improved communication, and will recognise the certification of the co-operation courses.
Steven Joyce, New Zealand Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, & Employment added: We’re always looking to improve our education system for our young people as well. And one of the ways which we do that is to improve the links internationally with countries important to us. And Vietnam is one of those countries.
The forum also witnessed the signing of agreements between New Zealand’s Auckland University of Technology and Quảng Ninh Province.
Vu Thi Dung, Vice head, Quang Ninh Organisation Commission, Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee said: In October, we will send a group of leaders to Auckland University for training. We’ll invite some academics from New Zealand to come to Quảng Ninh Province to take part in a week-long lecture programme.
Prof. Nigel Hemmington, Auckland University of Technology (AUT) said: We’re very excited about this agreement. We’ve already done some work in tourism development and English language training. We’ve also offered to provide scholarships to students from Quang Ninh Province.
New Zealand has provided 150 post-graduate scholarships for Vietnam over the 2011- 2016 period and 455 Vietnamese officials have spent time in New Zealand participating in the programme to date./.
