Chinese President and General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Vietnam from November 5 to 6 at the invitation of Vietnam Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang. This is the Chinese premier’s first visit to Vietnam and coincides with the 65th anniversary of Vietnam-China relations. The visit is expected to foster the close relation between the 2 nations.

Van Minh Street, Guangzhou, China. This house 90 years ago saw a breakthrough in Vietnam's revolutionary history. In June, 1925, Nguyen Ai Quoc later famous as Ho Chi Minh, founded the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League - the forerunner of the Indochinese Communist Party and organised cadre training courses here. This house is carefully preserved by Guangzhou city as its commitment to Sino-Vietnamese ties.

"President Ho Chi Minh taught here. China's president Luu Thieu Ky and Prime Minister Chu An Lai also came here to teach Vietnamese students." - Tourist Guide, Headquarters, Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League.

Relations between the two countries have thrived since the early days of Vietnam's revolution. China was one among first nations to recognise the government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam 60 years ago. This happened right after President Ho Chi Minh announed in 1950 that Vietnam was willing to establish diplomatic ties with any governments which respected the right to equality, the territorial and national sovereignty of Vietnam.

"Back then, China's President Mao Ze Dong was visiting Russia. After he heard this announcement, he called Beijing 3 times in 24 hours to direct China to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam. President Ho Chi Minh also sent personnel to China to support China's revolution. He sent personnel to Guangdong to help us hunt bandits, many of them fell there." - Qi Jianguo, Vice President, Vietnam-China Friendship Association.

Hoàng Quần was a Chinese revolutionary who participated in Vietnam's revolution and a member of the Chinese Communist Party. At the age of 80, he wants to see the current leaders of the two countries preserve and uphold the relations that generations of leaders have built up.

"Vietnam and China have a very close relationship, just like in President Ho Chi Minh’s famous quote "comrades and brothers". After peace was established, when Prime Minister Chu An Lai visited Vietnam, he wrote in a Chinese students' books that Chinese love Vietnam. This was also a rule at the school." - Huang Qin, Former member, Chinese Advisor Union in Vietnam.

Vietnam-China relations have been built on trust and sincerity that have been nurtured by a secession of senior leaders. This is a valuable asset and a firm foundation for the present generations of both countries to uphold.
