In the context of the country's significant transformations as it enters a new era of the nation’s rise and prepares to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), provinces and cities across the country have held a variety of vibrant activities, creating a lively atmosphere for welcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) Festival 2025, attracting the enthusiastic participation of people from all walks of life, including tourists.
Perhaps, in many years, there hasn’t been a Lunar New Year in Hanoi and the northern region as beautiful as this year. The weather has been cold, but the gentle sunlight during the day creates favourable conditions for people and tourists to celebrate Tet and enjoy the spring festivities.
On the evening of January 28 (the 29th day of the last lunar month of the past Lunar Year of the Dragon), the roads leading to the city centre became crowded, especially around Hoan Kiem Lake. People gathered to watch artistic performances and await the fireworks display. Hoan Kiem Lake was the only location in the city to have two fireworks sites.
At exactly 0:00 on January 29, Hanoi’s sky lit up with dazzling fireworks displays. People joined together in joy and excitement at this sacred moment of welcoming the new year, filled with hope and confidence in a bright future for the capital and the country.
For decades, Hoan Kiem Lake has not only been a beloved destination for New Year's Eve celebrations but also a popular spot during the early days of spring. Welcoming the Lunar New Year, the city has kept all historical sites open throughout the holiday, drawing crowds to the sacred space of Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple, where people come to celebrate Tet and enjoy the spring festivities.
Hoan Kiem District has been beautifully decorated with vibrant mini landscapes to celebrate the 95th founding anniversary of the CPV and welcome the Lunar New Year.
For many Hanoians, New Year's Eve is almost a sleepless night. After watching the fireworks or completing the offering meal to heaven and ancestors during the sacred transition from the old year to the new, many people visit historical sites to wish for a prosperous and auspicious year ahead.
Many major historical and cultural sites in the capital, such as Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature), Tay Ho Palace, Quan Su Pagoda, and Tran Quoc Pagoda, were bustling with worshippers from night until morning.
This year, the Centre for Cultural and Scientific Activities at the Temple of Literature has continued to host the Spring Calligraphy Festival.
This New Year's Eve, for the first time, Ho Chi Minh City hosted fireworks displays at 15 locations, including two high-altitude sites — one at the entrance of the Saigon River Tunnel (in Thu Duc City) and another at the Ben Duoc Martyrs' Memorial Temple (in Cu Chi District). The dazzling fireworks displays captivated large crowds of city residents as they bid farewell to the old year and welcomed the new year.
Since the 28th day of the lunar month, Nguyen Hue Flower Street has become the most popular attraction for visitors during this year’s Tet festivities. The Tet Book Street Festival also attracted many locals and tourists, making it a favourite springtime destination during the holiday.
The northernmost province of Ha Giang welcomed the Tet Festival in cold weather. On New Year's Eve, fireworks displays were organised in Ha Giang City and several other areas of the province, funded through social contributions, attracting large crowds of locals. Immediately after the stroke of midnight, many residents of Ha Giang City and surrounding areas visited the Memorial for Martyrs at Peak 468 in Thanh Thuy Commune, Vi Xuyen District, as well as Sung Khanh Pagoda, Quan Am Pagoda, and the Mau Temple (in Ha Giang City) to pray for a peaceful and happy new year.
A wide variety of cultural activities, art performances, and traditional folk games have been organised at cultural tourism villages and famous tourist spots such as Nam Dam Cultural Tourism Village in Quan Ba District; Lo Lo Chai Village in Lung Cu Commune, Dong Van District; and the H’Mong Ethnic Cultural Village in Pa Vi Commune, Meo Vac District.
Along with other localities in Quang Ninh Province, thousands of residents and tourists gathered at February 25 Square in Uong Bi City on New Year’s Eve to enjoy the festive atmosphere before the stroke of midnight. They also took the opportunity to explore the space, take photos, and capture beautiful moments ahead of the new spring of 2025.
In the mountainous district of Ba Che, the spring atmosphere has filled the villages and hamlets. People from various ethnic groups in the district have come together to sing and celebrate the arrival of the new spring.
Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of Hai Phong City Department of Culture and Sports, stated that the artists and performers from various art troupes have made great efforts to "cover" the programme, serving the people and creating a vibrant and colourful atmosphere at performance venues and entertainment areas throughout the city.
On the morning of the first day of the lunar year of the snake on Bach Long Vi Island — the northernmost island of the nation, the district leaders, along with various departments, organisations, armed forces, and the local people, solemnly organised the Lunar New Year flag-raising ceremony.
In Thanh Hoa City, many public welfare projects, playgrounds, and entertainment areas have been beautifully decorated. The flower carpets and check-in towers at Ham Rong Square have attracted large numbers of locals to experience, explore, and learn about the Ham Rong historical, cultural, and revolutionary heritage complex. These days, the Le Loi Monument and the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Cultural Area in the city centre have been popular destinations for people from all walks of life.
During this time, the Hoi An Park — a project honouring the traditional friendship between Thanh Hoa City and Hoi An City (Quang Nam) — was newly renovated and opened to the public. It features replicas of the Hoi An Bridge, the ancient streets of Hoi An, and photo panels showcasing "Thanh Hoa Then and Now", which have become gathering spots for the community.
Da Nang welcomed Lunar New Year with both high-altitude and low-altitude fireworks display in three locations, lighting up the city sky. From the first to the third day of Tet Festival, temples, spiritual tourist sites, Son Tra Peninsula, and the Ngu Hanh Son mountains were packed with people visiting to pray for peace and prosperity in the new year.
This year’s Tet Festival has been quite special for the people of Lam Dong, Da Lat City, and visitors from all over, as the cherry blossom trees bloomed just in time for the traditional Tet holiday, adding a pink hue to the highland spring. The artistic flower displays from the 10th Dalat Flower Festival have been preserved and are being showcased to serve the Tet festivities.
To create a joyful atmosphere for the traditional Tet celebration and to mark the 95th founding anniversary of CPV, the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism collaborated with Buon Ma Thuot City to organise a special artistic programme themed "Dak Lak Welcomes Spring" along with a fireworks display to welcome Lunar New Year 2025.
The Tet and spring celebration activities in the Mekong Delta Province of Ca Mau have been quite lively over the past three days. Cultural sites, historical landmarks, and tourist destinations have attracted large crowds, especially at the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Area in the centre of Ca Mau City, as well as the Ca Mau Cape, Khai Long, and Da Bac tourist areas.
