This is a historic milestone in the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons around the globe. While there had previously been other regulatory documents addressing the same issue, this is the first time such a comprehensive set of laws has been established to prevent all means of nuclear armament. The treaty received approval from most of the member nations. Only the Netherlands voted against it, while Singapore left a blank vote. Meanwhile, countries currently in possession of nuclear weapons did not take part in the vote. However, the treaty is open for new signatories to join.
