The event was an opportunity to honor travel agencies with the most outstanding performances in Vietnam in 2017 and also to look back at the progress of the tourism sector over the past year. Within the first 6 months of 2017, Vietnam welcomed 6.2 million visitors.
This represents an increase of 30% as compared to the same period last year. Vietnam currently ranks 7th among the 20 fastest growing tourism industries around the world. Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam attended the event to emphasize the importance the sector holds in the country's economy. It contributes 15% of the total GDP.
