Taking care of ethnic minorities, poor workers as Tet draws near

VTV.vn - Officials have paid visits to ethnic minorities and poor workers nationwide ahead of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

On January 20, Chairman of the Party Central Committee’ Commission for Inspection Tran Cam Tu joined leaders of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and Ha Tinh Province to present Tet gifts to local policy families, poor households and workers in difficult circumstances as well as socio protection centres in the central province.

Conveying his Tet wishes to policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged employees, Tu hailed local authorities and people of Ha Tinh for successfully implementing social security measures, as well as COVID-19 prevention and control and overcoming consequences of natural disasters last year.

Tu suggested that the Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Front and mass organisations in Ha Tinh need to perform better in the work of caring for poor households and disadvantaged workers, while encouraging locals to promote the tradition of industriousness, solidarity and mutual support to build a developed Ha Tinh.

* On January 20, the VGCL announced that 500 free air tickets sponsored by Bamboo Airways will be offered to trade union members and employees with difficult circumstances to help them return home to celebrate Tet with family members.

The tickets are offering under the "Ticket of gratitude" programme jointly held by the airlines and VGCL, applicable for three routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh (Nghe An), Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa) and Noi Bai (Hanoi).

* On the same day, a delegation from the Border Guard High Command visited and presented 18 Tet gifts to policy families, local authorities, border soldiers and local people in three border communes of Tan Hong District, Dong Thap Province.

* Also on January 20, the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Dak Lak Province announced that the People's Committee of Dak Lak has issued a decision setting Tet gift giving to collectives and individuals in the province with a total budget of over VND42.6 billion, an increase of more than VND2 billion compared to last year’s Tet.

* The southernmost province of Ca Mau has decided to spend more than VND28.8 billion to organise activities to celebrate Tet. Of which, more than VND22 billion will be granted for Tet visits and gift giving to local policy beneficiaries.

* Vinh Phuc Province has issued a decision to deduct more than VND37.8 billion from its budget to visit and give Tet gifts to local policy families, people with meritorious services and poor households.

* On January 20, the Hanoi Confederation of Labour said that as Tet draws near, the union has decided to support its members and workers affected by COVID-19 and natural disasters in 2020 with the support level of at least VND1 million/person.

In the first days of 2021, the capital city’s Confederation of Labour has spent VND1.2 billion from the Hanoi Social Fund to build new houses and repair homes to union members in difficult circumstances.

So far, Hanoi trade union units have organised visits and presented support to 61,971 workers and employees affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.
