Southern provinces face severe saline intrusion

VTV.vn - Mekong Delta provinces are currently facing severe salinity and drought.

Since the beginning of the year, high temperatures have greatly affected local cultivation. In addition to water shortage for agricultural production and daily life, dry rivers and canals have also made it difficult for people to travel.

While being affected by prolonged drought, the increasing level of saline intrusion has also caused shrimp deaths. Ca Mau Province is one of the provinces with the largest concentration of shrimp farms in the country. As for the prolonged dry season this year, shrimp farmers have suffered heavy losses. Currently, a number of shrimp ponds have to be abandoned because farmers no longer want to raise shrimps due to fear of failure.
