The Son La Provincial People’s Committee held a ceremony at the Dinh Chu historical site in Chieng Ha Village, Quang Huy Commune, Phu Yen District, to receive a certificate honouring the title.
"Xip Xi" means "fourteen" in the Thai ethnic language. Xip Xi Festival is observed on the 14th day of the seventh lunar month, after the harvesting season.
During the festival, people prepare offerings to pay gratitude to their ancestors and to pray for favourable weather conditions and bumper crops.
In Phu Yen District, the festival is also known as "children’s festival". On the occasion, children receive new clothes from their parents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Trang Thi Xuan, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the Son La Provincial People’s Committee, said that the recognition of the festival is a source of pride for the Thai ethnic communities in the districts of Phu Yen and Quynh Nhai.
She called on Phu Yen District’s authorities to preserve and promote the cultural value of the festival, turning it into a resource to develop tourism and the socio-economic situation in the locality.
