VTV.vn - Fishing vessels conducting illegal fishing activities will face severe consequences, according to the Directorate of Fisheries after Vietnam received a yellow card from the European Union.

Specifically, any fishing vessels found to violate regulations will not receive any government support or owners will be banned from constructing a new vessel if their vessel is sunk in foreign waters.

Cases where there are deliberate violations will be prosecuted. The harsh punishment is aimed to resolve the illegal fishing issue after a warning from the EU. Vietnam recorded 1,250 cases involving more than 2,000 fishing vessels and 16,500 fishermen from 2010 to date. Most of these vessels belonged to Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Quang Ngai, Kien Giang and Binh Dinh provinces.
