The region has been facing long bouts of dry spells and hot weather, leaving vegetation at an alarmingly higher risk of catching fire. Binh Thuan is also known as one of the most drought-prone areas in the country. Currently out of the province’s 370,000 hectares of forest, 150,000 hectares are at risk of catching fire. Some of these forests are located in the districts of Tuy Phong, Bắc Bình, Hàm Thuận Nam, Hàm Thuận Bắc, Hàm Tân, La Gi and Phan Thiết, with forest fire warnings at alert level three – one of the higher levels.
