VTV.vn - Despite advancements in technology, weather forecasters around the world struggle to predict the intensity of emerging storms.

A consensus on the need to enhance weather forecast capabilities by embracing new technologies was reached on Tuesday in a technical forum held by the Typhoon Committee in Hanoi. The conference was an opportunity for weather forecast experts from around the world to share their experiences and best practices in the analysis and prediction of extreme weather events, including typhoons, flooding, droughts, salt intrusion and high tides,  phenomena that Vietnam has been familiar with throughout its history. The conference was held along with other activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Typhoon Committee, of Vietnam is currently holding the presidential chair. The committee was established in 1968 under the sponsorship of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP). It currently has 14 member countries.
