The Government leader made the remark at a ceremony held in Hanoi on December 3 by the Ministry of Education and Training to honour international Olympiad medallists and students who achieved the best results in the 2016 university entrance exams.
The awardees included 35 students who competed at international Olympiads this year and brought home eight gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals as well as two certificates of merit. 2016 was the first year to witness all seven Vietnamese delegations win a gold medal at the contests, including the first-ever gold medal at the Biology Olympiad over the past 15 years.
Five students who achieved the best scores among nearly 900,000 high school graduates sitting for the university entrance this year were also granted certificates of merit by the Ministry of Education and Training at the ceremony.
Congratulating the outstanding students on their excellent results, Prime Minster Nguyen Xuan Phuc reminded them that their fruitful outcomes have been significantly contributed to by efforts and support from their parents and teachers as well as the education and training sector.
He expressed his hope that the achievements the students have already gained would motivate them to take further steps in their path ahead towards a bright future.
As Vietnam is entering the fourth industrial revolution, it must be equipped with high-quality human resources, he said, adding that it required efforts from every single Vietnamese individual, particularly the younger generation.
He asked the education and training sector to advance renovations in teaching and learning methods and improve the study environment for students so that they are well nurtured to grow into innovators, scientists, entrepreneurs, businesspeople and contributors to the national development in the time to come.
