Iceland’s President Olafur Ragna was received by State President Truong Tan Sang at a welcome ceremony this morning in Hanoi. This is the Icelandic leader’s first state visit to Vietnam, offering an opportunity for both countries to increase trade and investment cooperation, as well as promote the future signing of the EU-Vietnam FTA.
Viet Nam and Iceland first established diplomatic relations in 1973. Viet Nam-Iceland trade relations remain limited, with two-way trade in the first six months of this year valued at $9 million USD.
Viet Nam's main exports to Iceland include wood, textiles, vegetables, and fruits, while Iceland ships seafood materials and machinery to Viet Nam.
The two sides will discuss ways to promote links between their enterprises, with an aim to boost bilateral cooperation in economics, science, technology, and education between the countries.
