Vietnam has officially licensed the import of fresh blueberries from Poland, marking a new milestone in agricultural cooperation between the two countries following the entry into force of the EU - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Poland, the Vietnamese government has encouraged measures to ensure more balanced trade relations, particularly with partners in the European Union and the United States. One such measure is to expand domestic access to imported inputs such as machinery, equipment and materials or complementary products that do not compete directly with local production.

In line with this strategy, the Vietnamese Embassy in Poland coordinated with the agriculture ministries of the two countries to facilitate the import of Poland’s high-quality agricultural products for Vietnamese consumers. This not only strengthens bilateral trade relations but also gives Vietnamese consumers access to a wider range of temperate fruits, fostering competition among foreign suppliers for the benefit of local buyers.

Following the licencing of meat imports in 2023 and 2024, a recent delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) inspected Polish blueberry farms and processing facilities, reporting highly positive results. On September 16, 2025, the MAE’s Plant Protection and Production Department officially informed the Polish Plant Protection and Seed Inspection Service that fresh Polish blueberries are now permitted for export to Vietnam.

The Trade Office noted that blueberries are highly popular in Vietnam due to their distinctive temperate flavour, high vitamin content, anti-ageing properties and low calorie count. Currently, limited supply and high transport costs mean fresh blueberries are priced between 1 - 1.5 million VND per kilogramme (nearly 40 – 60 USD), beyond the reach of many consumers. The entry of Polish blueberries is expected to increase competition, expand options, and make this nutritious fruit more accessible to Vietnamese consumers.
