The statement was made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc while visiting Hue University in the central city of the same name on January 2.
Speaking at the working session, PM Phuc emphasised the proud 60 year long history of Hue University. He noted that the university is the quintessence of the central region, particularly Thue Thien – Hue province, and a major training centre with many specialised and well-trained majors.
The PM asked the university's management board to focus on models necessary to create favourable condition for the teaching, learning and researching activities of teachers and students, as well as measures to upgrade the existing small-scaled infrastructure.
He urged for the implementation of Resolution No.29 of the Party Central Committee on the fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training, meeting the requirements for industrialisation and modernisation in the socialist-oriented market economy and international integration.
The Government leader stated that Hue University should encourage scientific knowledge, self-study methods and soft skills among students, as well as enhance the application of high technology in teaching and studying.
It is also essential to associate the training with social demands in order to improve both the quantity and quality of trainees towards international standards, he added.
PM Phuc noted the importance of the connection with employers, organisation of career programmes and close links with local authorities to help students in seeking jobs after graduation.
Currently, Hue University has nearly 3,900 officials and teachers, including nearly 250 professors and associate professors. The scientific research conducted by the university has created hundreds of technological products.
Earlier on the same day, the PM visited and planted a memorial tree at Bach Ma National Park, as well as worked with the investor of Laguna Lang Co resort project.
