Myanmar announces date for presidential election

VTV.vn - All members of the parliament are expected to elect the President from among the three vice presidents - Min Aung Hlaing, Nan Ni Ni Aye, and U Nyo Saw.

Myanmar’s parliament on April 2 announced that the presidential election will be held on April 3, after three vice presidents were confirmed to have met eligibility requirements for the country’s top leadership position.

All members of the parliament are expected to elect the President from among the three vice presidents - Min Aung Hlaing, Nan Ni Ni Aye, and U Nyo Saw.

Earlier, on March 31, elected lawmakers of the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) and Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) selected Min Aung Hlaing and Nan Ni Ni Aye as vice presidents. On the same day, U Nyo Saw was elected vice president by military-appointed representatives from both houses.

Min Aung Hlaing, a former Senior General, has led the country since the 2021 ousting of the civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi. In accordance with the Constitution, he is required to relinquish his military posts if elected President.
