VTV.vn - The UNESCO-recognised My Son Sanctuary in Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province, is temporarily closed to visitors from March 16 until further notice, announced the district People’s Committee on March 15.

The move aims to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the locality amid the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the community.

Once the religious and political capital of the Champa Kingdom, My Son Sanctuary is located in a hilly landscape in Duy Phu Commune, about 70 km southwest of central Da Nang City and 40 km from Hoi An City.

It comprises eight groups of 71 monuments built during the 7th to 13th centuries.

In a similar effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, the People's Committee of Quang Binh Province has decided to temporarily shut historical and cultural relic sites in the central province starting from March 17.

According to Director of the provincial Department of Tourism Ho An Phong, the majority of foreign tourists to Quang Binh come from European countries, where COVID-19 is spreading widely.

All tourist sites in the central province of Quang Tri will suspend the reception of visitors from March 18, according to a decision signed by Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam.

The province has also extended the closure of kindergartens and elementary and middle schools for another week, from March 16 – 23.
