The rising Sepon River has caused flooding in some areas in Lao Bảo town and a number of communes in the Lìa region.
On Thursday night, the Hướng Hóa district authority evacuated nearly 300 households from affected areas. So far, nearly 50 hamlets and villages have been isolated due to flooding in bridges and roads, with levels as deep as 2 meters.
A 20-meter-long western part of the Ho Chi Minh Route was also flooded, causing traffic congestion. In these isolated localities, barriers have been erected to prevent people from traveling to dangerous areas.
The local border force is cleaning up areas where water has receded so they can continue Covid prevention activities.
