VTV.vn - A ceremony was held in Hanoi on March 15 to observe the International Francophone Day (March 20) by the Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).

Staged at Ly Thai To Square beside Hoan Kiem (Sword) lake, the event featured arts performances honouring the diversity of culture and linguistics by artists from the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre and students of the French language, as well foreign artists from Canada and France.

Addressing the ceremony, MOFA Deputy Minister Le Hoai Trung highlighted the achievements made by the Francophonie community and its positive contributions to addressing global challenges in security and development.

He stressed Vietnam’s practical contributions to the development of the Francophonie community and the country’s efforts to promote the French language in the region.

He noted with pleasure that the relationship between Vietnam and the French-speaking community has been increasingly tightened and enhanced, adding that Vietnam will continue to proactively and actively participate in and contribute to strengthening the solidarity and cooperation within the community for peace, stability and sustainable development in the world.

The country is willing to serve as a bridge for the robust development of the French language in the Asia-Pacific region, he pledged.

At the ceremony, Anne Lange, head of mission of Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegation in Vietnam and President of the Group of Francophone Embassies, Delegations and Institutions (GADIF) in Hanoi, presented GADIF awards to Bui Tran Phuong from the Nha Trang city-based Pacific Ocean University, and student Tran Bich Nga of the Hue city University of Medicine and Pharmacy in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the development of the French language in Vietnam, as well as the cooperation between Vietnam and the OIF.

60 booths were set up during the two-day event by embassies and institutions from French-speaking countries, French-language educational institutions, and institutional and commercial partners, providing visitors with delicacies, entertainment activities, and necessary information on the French-speaking community.
