Incense offering ceremony commemorates late President Ton Duc Thang

VTV.vn - Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung joined the leaders of An Giang province to offer incense and flowers to late President Ton Duc Thang at his memorial site in Long Xuyen City in commemoration of the late President’s 132nd birthday.

The delegates held a one-minute silence in memory of the late President Ton Duc Thang, a brilliant example of the loyalty, dedication, sincerity and revolutionary virtues of a communist soldier.

The life and revolutionary career of the late President has left valuable lessons for Vietnam’s revolutionary cause while portraying himself as an outstanding communist of the country’s working class.

Following the ceremony, Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung visited the traditional house exhibiting photos and documents on the late President’s life. He also planted a tree at the memorial site.

Comrade Ton Duc Thang was born in My Hoa Hung Village, Long Xuyen Province (now An Giang Province), to a family with a rich tradition of patriotism.

He joined the patriotic struggle at a very young age and became a member of the Vietnamese Communist Party in 1930. He was elected as a member of the first National Assembly in 1946.

He held many important posts in the government before being elected President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1969 and later President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 1976.

He was awarded the Gold Star Order in 1958 for his contributions to the country, making him the first to receive the highest decoration of the Party and State.
