VTV.vn - Two COVID-19 patients with severe underlying diseases, along with two others, were announced as recovered from the coronavirus in Hanoi and Thua Thien Hue on Friday (Aug 21).

The Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases this afternoon announced the recovery of three COVID-19 patients after undergoing treatment there.

The trio are Patients no. 459, 676 and 989, the first being a 76-year-old man residing in Tay Ho District, Hanoi, who had suffered from severe pneumonia.

In early August, Patient 459 suffered severe lung damage combined with sepsis caused by gram-negative intestinal anaerobic bacteria. However, after receiving treatment under a set regimen from the hospital, the patient gradually stabilised and now his indicators have returned to normal.

Patient 676, a 13-year-old boy from Dinh Lap, Lang Son Province is a member of a family of whom four people were infected after travelling to Da Nang City from July 21-25. The boy has recovered but the remaining members of his family are still being treated at the hospital.

Patient 989, a 35-year-old man from Tuyen Hoa, Quang Binh Province was a member of a group of 219 Vietnamese citizens repatriated from Equatorial Guinea on July 29. The group was quarantined immediately upon entry with most of them have been released after finishing their 14-day isolation at the hospital.

All three patients had multiple negative tests for SARS-CoV-2, including cross-checking with the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to confirm the results before announcing their recovery.

They will continue to be quarantined for the next 14 days for further monitoring.

As of this afternoon, there are 33 COVID-19 patients still undergoing treatment at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

On the same day, in the central province of Thua Thien Hue, one more patient with comorbidities was also announced as recovered from COVID-19.

However, the 56-year-old man (known as Patient no. 438) from the neighbouring city of Da Nang is still at the Hue Central Hospital for further treatment on his other diseases, including pneumonia-respiratory failure, ureteral malignant tumour, hypertension and diabetes.

Earlier, he was a patient at Da Nang Hospital before being confirmed as having contracted the coronavirus on July 28. Patient 438 was transferred to the Hue Central Hospital for COVID-19 treatment a day later and has now recovered from the virus, after five negative tests from August 16 to 20.

In addition to Patient 438, the Hue Central Hospital Facility 2 is providing treatment to five other COVID-19 patients, four of whom have had negative test results on at least one occasion.

Vietnam has recorded a total of 1,007 COVID-19 infections, of which 666 were local transmissions. 25 fatalities have been reported, while the number of recoveries has reached 545.
