The 16-year-old patient was said to have been suffering from a bone tumor that has affected her jaw since the age of 8. Doctors had to remove her entire jaw and reconstruct the right half of her face using her calf bone.
Doctors will reconstruct the left half 6 months later. The entire surgery process was free of charge.
This is the 10th year the Hanoi National Hospital of Odonto Stomatology has carried out this type of surgery. The cost of carrying out reconstructive jaw micro-surgery in Vietnam is roughly one-tenth of the cost in Europe, the US, and South Korea.
