Winners of the 2018 Golden Kite Awards will be announced today (April 15) in Hanoi.
Entries include feature films, TV series, animations, documentaries, science films, short films, and cinematography research projects. Short films have gained popularity.
This year’s 30 entries are an impressive number. But feature films have received the most attention. All 13 entries are produced by private film companies in Ho Chi Minh city, an entertainment hub of Vietnam.
Dao Cua Dan Ngu Cu (The Way Station) won Best Film, Best Actor and Best Director of Photography at the ASEAN International Films Festival & Awards (AIFFA) in 2017. Co Ba Sai Gon (The Tailor) by movie star, director and producer Ngo Thanh Van created a trend of wearing Ao Dai all over Vietnam. Da Co Hoai Lang (Night Drumbeats Cause Longing for Absent Husband), tells a story of Vietnamese expats.
Screenwriter Trinh Thanh Nha, head of the jury board for TV Series, said “The Golden Kite Awards’ popularity has grown, not so much reflecting the quantity of entries, but the quality. The awards are a kind of art summary of the year and open to all. Film makers anticipate these awards to gauge how far they have gone in their career.”
