Today, the Inter-sectoral Council that consists of 11 ministries, and the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province and scientists held a meeting to assess the ramifications of the marine environmental incident before proposing whether or not the government should allow Formosa to operate its blast furnace.
At the Council meeting, scientists and industry representatives focused on environmental treatment technologies that Formosa added at the waste water treatment plant, industrial waste water treatment plant and analysed and clarified the waste disposal capacity of Formosa when operating the No. 1 blast furnace. Other gases have automated monitoring systems, and the monitoring team takes samples monthly, so scientists agree that Formosa meets the requirements to operate blast furnace number 1. In addition, representatives of relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Provincial People's Committee also highly appreciated Formosa's efforts to overcome the violations. After a thorough discussion, the council agreed that Formosa has completed environmental protection works and is eligible for the test operation of the No. 1 blast furnace, steelmaking and other supporting works.
