About 50 different meetings, seminars, and dialogues will be held over a two-week period, focusing on in-depth discussion and orientation for the APEC Year 2017 documents.
"In this session, we focus on collaboration multiple economies to come up with specific projects and documents to promote our priorities, including determining APEC's future from now until 2020 and beyond. These priorities will also be concretized at the SOM2 conference this time", said Bui Thanh Son - Deputy Foreign Minister, Vice Chairman of APEC National Committee 2017.
A more specific vision about the orientation of APEC co-operation is the main topic of many activities at this conference. One of them is the multi-stakeholder dialogue on APEC towards 2020 and beyond, an idea initiated by Vietnam, which pushes for the implementation of the Bogor Goal on realising free trade in the Asia Pacific region.
This is an event with the participation of many, including officials, academics, businesses and other socio-economic groups, who share and build ideas together, contributing to the building of APEC after 2020.
One highlight of the conference is the APEC Advanced Policy Dialogue on Human Resource Development in the Digital Age. This is a contemporary issue in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, involving APEC co-operation in three areas: job prospects, job training and social security in the digital age.
On this occasion, the first APEC Trade Ministers Meeting will also be held, which includes side activities such as meeting between trade ministers of the 11 TPP members and the new negotiation round of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
This year's event saw 1,700 participants, attracting nearly 500 domestic and international reporters.
