Foreign enterprises eye Vietnam’s health sector

VTV.vn - Vietnam’s healthcare is recognised potential as authority envisaged an 18% annual growth for the sector until 2017.

To better promote the sector’s developments and allows faster track of foreign investment, the Ministry of Health organizes the Vietnam International Medical and Pharmaceutical Exhibition (Vietnam Medi-Pharm), the biggest annual event for the medical and pharmaceutical sector in Vietnam.

The international exhibition showcases the latest products and state-of-the-art medical technology from over 300 businesses from 30 countries and territories, including Japan, Ukraine, India and China. On display across 450 pavilions are medical and laboratory products, medical equipment and supplies, pharmaceutical processing and packaging machinery, ophthalmological and dental products, and more.

Assoc. Prof Pham Le Tuan, Deputy Minister of Health said: The participation of a large number of foreign firms in this international exhibition shows their interest in Vietnam. This is very significant as we are integrating profoundly with the global market. Vietnamese businesses are exposed to business opportunities and technical transfers.

Foreign companies participating at the event, regardless of whether they have an established supply chain in Vietnam or are just entering the country for the first time, revealed their high expectations for business in the country. They also expressed their appreciation of the preferential conditions provided by the Vietnamese Government.

Davydenko Voliodymyr, Owner, Olympia-Krasnyi Krest, Ukraine said: Vietnam is a promising market with over 90 million people. We provide orthopedic surgical instruments and have established an office in Hanoi, so that medial professionals can use our high quality products.

Katsuya Murai, Manager, Overseas Sales Dept., Takeuchi Manufacturing Ltd.,  Japan said: We have 22 to 25 destinations worldwide and Vietnam is our biggest market. We have been successful in Vietnam for 30 over years. Vietnamese like our products, our quality and service.

"As a provider of home healthcare equipment, we have seen a strongly growing demand for our products in Vietnam. People are becoming more and more aware of their health, thus requiring some products to be used at home.", added  Nguyen An Kien, Sales Manager, Northern Area Market, Jiangsu Yuyue Medical Ltd., China.

Harmandeep Singh Assistant Manager, Tynor Orthotics Ltd, India said: We are looking forward to establishing our network in the northern part of the country and Da Lat City. That’s our plan for this year.

Recent moves by authorities have presented a salient opportunity for investment. Reforms have seen the foreign ownership cap for businesses providing health related services raised to 70 percent. The country has also made arrangements to allow qualified medical professionals to enter the country. In concert with the prevailing conditions found throughout Vietnam, these changes are hoped to attract more foreign investment in the sector.
