Transparent lists were announced. With simple procedures, the money was paid to right person. The compensation programme was taken seriously. And local people now can return to fishing.
Up to now, four central provinces have paid nearly 132,000 USD out of a total of about 219,000 USD that was temporarily granted. It is expected that compensation payments will finally be completed by the end of June 2017.
Quang Tri fishermen have received good news recently. After two days fishing at sea, Le Tuan from Gio Linh District, Quang Tri Province has caught 150 tonnes of mackerel. Since the beginning of the year, many Quang Tri fishermen have taken large catches; however this is the largest yet.
At Cua Viet port, Tuan's mackerel is being sold to traders at the price of 40,000 VND per kg. So this will bring 6 billion VND, equivalent to 263,000 USD.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has required four central coastal provinces and related agencies to frequently check marine environment quality and publicly announce to people. However, via stories of fishermen and their large catches, we can see that fishing activities in central region has been recovered.
