Only one-third of the 200 fishing vessels in Dong Tac Fishing Village are currently operating. As the cost for each fishing trip is over 5,500 USD, a minimum catch of 1.5-to-2 tons is needed to profit.
However, this cannot be achieved with the increasingly warm currents driving tuna away from the East Sea. This is a huge blow for fishermen in the Central Region, as tuna is one of the main aquaculture products there.
