The scenario featured a flight departing from the Noi Bai International Airport to Dong Hoi Airport in the central province of Quang Binh.
According to the scripted event, a flight 12 minutes out from Hanoi hits difficulties and calls air traffic control to make a landing at Vinh, a few minutes later the flight disappears from radar and communication ceases. Rescue forces are immediately mobilised. Over 400 people from Vietnam’s civil aviation agencies, the Ministry of Defence, and Nghe An Province, and a number of specialist equipment, including rescue aircraft, boats and hydroplanes, among were involved in the drill.
Through the event, Vietnam’s ability to ensure provision of search and rescue services were introduced to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), civil aviation organisations and airline service developers.
