VTV.vn - The defense ministry's Chemical Command is cleaning up A So airport in Thua Thien Hue Province of dioxin contamination left from the Vietnam War.

During the War, the American military used A So airport as a field airport. This was also a place to store toxic chemicals and a transit station for the U.S. Air Force to spray Agent Orange containing the dangerous chemical contaminant dioxin across the region.

Dioxin treatment at the airport has combined sequestration and biological methods with the aim of best environmental restoration for the area.

The handling of dioxins is carried out carefully in compliance with safety regulations. The project to treat dioxin contamination at A So and A Luoi airports started in October 2020.

After nearly two years of implementation, the project was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. But now the team is now pushing ahead with the task to meet the year-end deadline and ensure safety and health for the local people./.
