VTV.vn - Growing forests for economic purposes has been developed in Vietnam. However, in order to maintain sustainable growth for this segment, forest growers in Vietnam need to adopt sustainable forest management methods.

Forest growers in Phu Yen province have grown forests for economic purposes for many years. However, they found many knew knowledge when attending this training program on sustainable forest management.

This forest in Sơn Xuân commune, Phu Yen province has a total area of more than 350 ha. During the growing process, the growers had to commit to many strict regulations. For example, the forest planted between 2010 and 2013 will not be fully harvested to avoid the loss of forest coverage and biodiversity of the region. 20% of the forest growing area are reserved for natural regeneration forest.

Since 1993, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a non-governmental organization, has come up with regulations that require economic forest growers to comply. In Vietnam, certified sustainable forest area only accounts for only 5% of planted forest nationwide.

Achieving sustainable forest management certifications is necessary if Vietnam wants to export woods to the global market.
