This year's report indicates a strong race to improve regional economic conditions between localities across Vietnam in 2016. The index's criteria for evaluation include integration, dynamism, proactivity and business friendliness. Danang continued to lead this year's rankings with its 7th consecutive year holding this position since they released the first index, 12 years ago. Quang Ninh took over 2nd place from Dong Thap to claim the highest ranking this locality has ever held in 12 years.
In general, many local authorities have shown better transparency, more favourable support for businesses and simplified paperwork. This has been the main reason behind the increased competitiveness of regions across Vietnam.
