To prepare for this, the Combat Engineering Command in collaboration with the Institute of International Relations on Thursday organised rehearsals with the participation of Vietnam.
Brigade 229 and army sappers are defusing improved explosive devices in this scenario. The watching officers are impressed.
"At the rehearsal today, the engineers went through 10 scenarios on handling bombs, two situations related to manual and electronic demining. I think that 10 scenarios went well." - Tran Hong Minh, Major General, Combat Engineering Command, Ministry of Defence
The next rehearsal in India will be an opportunity for Vietnam's military to learn experiences from other countries in conducting demining and defusing of explosives in the field as well as support medical and health care. The Vietnamese military will also share its own experiences on mine clearance and dealing with the aftermath of conflict.
"We’ve had good preparation in terms of ideology and expertise for the rehearsals. I’m sure we’ll be able to do what we were trained." - Le Minh Hoang, Lieutenant, Brigade 229, Combat Engineering Command, Ministry of Defence.
The Expert Group on Humanitarian Mine Action and Expert Group on Peacekeeping were established within the framework of the Conference of ASEAN Defence Ministers in order to encourage multilateral, practical and effective co-operation. Vietnam has continued to play a leading role in working within these two areas.
"This is the second time Vietnam has sent military abroad to participate in rehearsals under multilateral frameworks. We have participated in an efficient way and are acting as leader in this framework." - Vu Tien Trong, Major General – Head, Institute of International Relations, Ministry of Defence.
According to the work plan of the Group of Experts of ADMM+ on Humanitarian Mine and Peacekeeping during 2014 to 2017, joint rehearsals between humanitarian mine action and peacekeeping in 2016 will be held from 2-8 March 2016 in Pune, India.
