Porcilis PRRS is an infectious disease that lowers pigs’ immune system. It has led to the death of significant numbers of pigs since antibiotics could not cure for the disease.
"Before 2013, the breakout of the Blue Ear Pig Disease caused considerable losses to pig farmers and environmental pollution as thousands of pigs were slaughtered." - Dam Xuan Thanh, Deputy Head, Veterinary/Animal Health Department
In the last 3 years, Vietnam has spent 47 million US dollars importing about 37 million doses of vaccines to combat Porcilis PRRS. However, at the beginning of 2015, Vemedim Animal Health Vietnam successfully produced 1.5 million doses at a quarter of the price.
Thanks to this new technology, the vaccine is now equivalent to 20 to 30 doses, much more than the 10 doses previously available.
"We can produce the vaccines in far larger amounts than before in a month. We’re able to provide the necessary amount of vaccines in Vietnam, where 30 million pigs are consumed a year." - Tran Thi Thu Hien, Director, HANVET GMP-WHO Factory
"We’ve secured the prevention of the Blue Ear Pig Disease, the most lethal pig disease. Our vaccine is affordable due to cheaper production costs, and the vaccine has proved to be effective." - Dr. Nguyen Huu Vu, General Director, Pharmaceutical and Veterinary Material J.S.C (HANVET)
The success of Porcilis PRRS vaccine production has paved the way for the exports of vaccines and veterinary medicines to the region and the global market.
